We want to help you show your best self on Bumble. To do that, you may see AI-powered suggestions on how to improve your profile photos. These tips are meant to be helpful, not critical. And, only you can see them.
We’re currently testing this feature, so you might see variations of this in your account.
How photo feedback works
We analyze your photos using AI tools to identify general, non-sensitive elements in the image, like whether a photo was taken outdoors, shows a group activity, or appears to be a selfie. These elements are then used to provide feedback tips that may help you improve your profile. The feedback is advisory only and is designed to help you decide how you want to present yourself.
What information is used?
Photo feedback analyzes the photos you have uploaded to your profile. The AI looks only for general visual elements, like settings or activities. It does not try to identify you, recognise faces, or determine who you are. We do not use photo feedback to identify you or verify your identity, recognise or compare faces, or infer sensitive information about you, such as health, beliefs, or sexual orientation.
Does photo feedback use facial recognition or biometric data?
No. We do not use facial recognition, biometric identification, or any technology designed to identify or confirm who you are for photo feedback. Photo feedback is focused on the content of the image, not on the person in the photo.
Why does Bumble use AI for photo feedback?
We know it can be hard to choose photos that show your personality and interests at a glance. AI helps us quickly assess general features of photos so we can offer helpful, consistent tips without having a human review your images. Using AI for this purpose allows us to provide feedback instantly and at scale, while keeping the feature non-intrusive.
What is the legal basis for using your photo for feedback?
When you choose to use photo feedback, we process the photo you submit in order to provide the feature you requested. This processing is necessary to perform our contract with you, as we cannot provide photo feedback without analyzing the image you choose to share.
Do you use third parties to provide photo feedback?
Yes. We use trusted service providers to help deliver this feature, including Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS can only process your data to deliver the photo feedback feature and is not allowed to use your data for its own purposes. They delete your images once feedback has been provided.
Where can I learn more about how Bumble uses my data?
You can find full details about how we use personal data, including when we use AI tools, in our Privacy Policy.
Photo feedback you may see:
- Add some variety: Try adding a full-length photo, an outdoor moment, or a picture with friends. A mix of photos helps people get a clearer sense of you.
- Show what you love: Share a photo of you doing something you enjoy. Showing your hobbies or interests can spark great conversations.
- Low-quality images: Some photos may look a bit blurry. Swapping them for clearer ones can help your profile shine.
- Replace mirror selfie: Mirror selfies can feel less personal. Try using a photo taken in a natural or everyday setting instead.
- Replace group photo: If your first photo has other people in it, try using a solo shot. It helps others know who they’re connecting with.
- Replace selfie: Selfies as your main photo often get less attention. Starting with a photo that shows more of your personality or lifestyle can make a difference.
- Duplicate photos: If you have similar photos, try switching one out for something new—a different activity, outfit, or moment.
- Remove sunglasses: Your eyes help people connect with you. Try adding a photo without sunglasses for a more open, welcoming feel.
- Add more photos of just you: Group pics are good, but solo shots help you stand out.
